The future of shipping docked at Norrköping’s Port with the arrival of LNG-powered MS Mermaid. It is the first LNG-powered vessel to dock here and it is also MS Mermaid’s first  voyage to Norrköping. This is CMA CGM’s first vessel of a series of ten new ships powered by LNG, featuring innovative designs aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and environmental performance in various ways. Altogether, these improvements result in up to 20% lower carbon dioxide emissions.

Our CEO Henrik Åkerström and Marketing & Sales Manager Magnus Grimhed were invited onboard to welcome Captain Artem Chernykov and his crew for their first time in Norrköping.

During their visit aboard, Captain Chernykov highlighted the positive aspects of the ship’s working environment, praising its comfortable and modern interiors and cabins. He also noted that the vessel is significantly quieter than traditional ships.

“It’s exciting that some of the innovations we hear so much about are now coming to us,” says Henrik Åkerström.

The ten new vessels, each with a capacity of 2,000 TEU, will gradually be deployed in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe to facilitate short-distance freight transport. This initiative aims to streamline the transfer of goods from road to sea. The ships are carrying 45-foot containers, equivalent to the number of pallets that can be loaded onto a truck, providing a sustainable alternative to road transport.
