Sustainable transport was the theme when CMA CGM, gathered with nearly 30 employees from Bauhaus, all working in logistics, procurement, and sustainability roles. The meeting took place in Norrköping, a natural meeting point because Bauhaus has placed its central warehouse in Sweden with PostNord TPL, located just a few kilometres from the Port of Norrköping, where goods can easily be transported from the port to the warehouse.
“We are always open to change, and right now, we are working on a new solution for our future supply chain in the Nordic region. We need to find alternative transport solutions for our imports other than trucks,” says Dirk Schmidt, Logistics Director at BAUHAUS.
One solution is to shift more goods from road to sea, and Urban Williamson along with colleagues Cecilia Haeger and Cecilia Carlsson from CMA CGM talked about the company’s 45-foot container solution, which has the same cargo capacity as a truck, as well as their concept for climate compensation where transport buyers can help drive a shift to alternative and more sustainable fuels.
“With the investment made in the electrified railway to the port, we also want to advocate for the opportunity to shift goods from road to rail in this context. But generally, it’s important not to lock oneself into one mode of transport but instead find the smartest transport solution for one’s goods, and we can be a good partner in these kinds of discussions,” says Magnus Grimhed, Marketing & Sales Manager at Norrköping Port.
